IPL Skin Treatments in Rancho Mirage and Palm Springs, CA
If you’re looking to reduce the appearance of freckles, sun spots, fine lines, rosacea, or enlarged pores, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) skin treatments may help. Dr. Sofonio utilizes this non-invasive broad band light to help patients of all ages to obtain an even, youthful-looking skin with minimal discomfort or recovery time needed. IPL treatments, also commonly referred to as photofacials, may be customized to suit most skin types and are generally recommended to treat areas on your face, neck, hands, arms, or chest.

How Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Technology Works
Using a state-of-the-art device that emits intense pulses of noncoherent light over specific wavelengths, IPL treatment targets blood vessels and/or pigment-producing cells found beneath your skin’s surface layer. By converting the light to a heat energy, IPL is able to target and treat unwanted discolorations without damaging your surrounding skin. The number of IPL skin treatments needed will be dependent upon your skin type and severity of the condition being treated, although 4-6 treatments spaced about four weeks apart are generally recommended.
IPL Post-Treatment Care and the Expected Results
Many patients have reported little to no discomfort involved with this type of procedure, likening the experience to the feeling of a rubber band being snapped on their skin. Depending on your skin’s level of sensitivity, you may be slightly red and/or puffy afterward. You should be able to resume your normal activities and skin care routine after the procedure. Exfoliating your skin regularly and avoiding overexposure to the sun and future sunburns will be essential to maintaining your results. Many patients see desired results from IPL skin treatments within about three months, though this will vary from patient to patient.

While many patients see desirable results from IPL skin treatments, they aren’t recommended for everyone. Those with darker skin tones may not find this type of treatment suitable. If you’ve been on an Accutane treatment or sun tanned, you’ll need to postpone procedure.
