Hair Restoration in Palm Springs: Look Younger, Feel More Confident!

If you are self-conscious or unhappy about thinning or balding areas on your head, hair replacement surgery may be a good option for you. You may notice your hairline is receding, or you may be thinning at the crown, or thinning hair at your part. During a hair replacement procedure, Dr. Sofonio takes healthy hair follicles from the back of your scalp and relocates them to the thinning or balding area. This way you can achieve thicker hair with natural-looking results – real hair where you need it.

Hair Replacement Procedure

When you come in for a consultation, Dr. Sofonio will examine you to determine if you are a good candidate for a hair replacement procedure. Hair replacement involves the transplantation of small portions of hair-bearing scalp grafts, harvested from donor sites to thinning or balding areas. This meticulous process may require several sessions before the procedure is complete. There are two main techniques that are used for hair replacement. Dr. Sofonio will discuss your options with you and ensure he uses the most suitable method to achieve the best results for your unique situation.

Hair Strip

Also known as FUT, this method removes a strip of hair from the side or back of your head. Dr. Sofonio then individually removes the hair follicles and implants them into your balding areas. This is a good option for a receding hairline or significant balding around the crown of your head. The hair strip method leaves a long thin scar which can usually easily be covered by the hair that grows back in the area.

NeoGraft

This is one of the most advanced hair replacement techniques. Individual hair follicles are extracted with a wand, using suction. Dr. Sofonio will remove the hair follicles from the back or sides of your head and implant them using a special tool. This method is gentler on hair follicles, which can improve the survival rate of your transplanted hairs. NeoGraft does not leave a long scar, but just almost invisible pinpoint scars where the follicles were harvested, hidden within your hair.

Post-Treatment Care

At the end of the grafting session, Dr. Sofonio will cleanse your scalp and cover it with gauze. You may also need to wear a pressure bandage for a day or two to keep any resultant swelling down. Dr. Sofonio will instruct you on any applicable post-treatment care tailored to your specific requirements. You will receive information for proper hair care, selection of protein-rich shampoo or other cosmetics.

Hair Replacement Results

The final result of a hair replacement procedure will be seen once the entire procedure is complete. The results are long-lasting, but you may need touch-ups to improve the appearance of your hairline at some point in the future.
