Breast reduction surgery, or reduction mammoplasty, is a procedure to reduce the size of overly large breasts. It may be performed to improve the appearance of the breasts, or for medical reasons.
How Does Breast Reduction Surgery Work?
A breast reduction procedure is customized in all cases. The first step involves analyzing your breasts and nipples and speaking with you about your ideal cup size. Our surgeon will explain what needs to be done to create the breasts you envision and answer all of your questions and concerns. Your surgery date will then be scheduled.
You will not experience any pain during the procedure, as it is usually performed under general anesthesia. At our state-of-the-art, on-site surgery center, your anesthesia will be administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist, and we are equipped with the most advanced patient health and safety technology.
During the procedure, Dr. Sofonio will place strategic incisions through which the excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin can be removed. If you have very large areolas, they will be reduced in size, and the nipples repositioned, so they are centered on the new breast mound.
