Abdominoplasty for Rancho Mirage and Palm Springs Patients
If you have excess areas of fat and skin in your abdominal area (commonly referred to as “love handles”), Dr. Sofonio provides abdominoplasty for Rancho Mirage and Palm Springs patients of all ages. Often called a tummy tuck, abdominoplasty can help you achieve a flatter, firmer tummy. Whether you’ve lost a significant amount of weight resulting in loose skin on your abdomen area or you’ve stretched out your abdominal muscles due to multiple pregnancies, many of Dr. Sofonio’s patients have benefited from a complete or partial abdominoplasty.
What to Expect During a Complete or Partial Abdominoplasty
Depending on the extent of corrections that are necessary and your desired results, Dr. Sofonio may recommend a complete or partial abdominoplasty. Abdominoplasty removes excess fat and skin from both your middle and lower abdomen, while also tightening your abdominal wall. Depending on the degree of corrections required, a complete abdominoplasty procedure may take anywhere from 1-5 hours and the patient may also be required to stay overnight in the hospital. A partial abdominoplasty, or mini tummy tuck, usually requires less procedure time, smaller incisions, and less recovery and downtime after the procedure.
Post-Treatment Care and Expected Results from Abdominoplasty
Minor pain and swelling are usually reported after an abdominoplasty, though medications may be used to aid in your recovery. You’ll be advised to rest for at least a month after the procedure, avoiding strenuous activities to ensure your wound has the proper amount of time to heal. A large percentage of patients who have had abdominoplasty performed by Dr. Sofonio, who is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, have been pleased with their results. However, it should be noted that abdominoplasty is not a substitute for weight loss or an exercise program. In order to maintain your abdominoplasty results, it will be necessary for you to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
