 Chin Augmentation

Chin augmentation can change the shape of the chin to reduce or enhance the chin to bring it into balance and proportion with the other facial features.  The contour of the chin can be reshaped to be smoother or more angular in appearance.

A weak chin can make a normal sized nose appear large, and already prominent noses seem even larger.  Weak chins, or smaller chins, may also give the appearance of a 'fleshy' neck.  On the other hand, a too prominent chin may give the appearance of having too small of a nose or otherwise throwing the face off balance.  The end result should be a balanced relationship within the structure of the face. 

 A procedure called Genioplasty, also known as Mentoplasty, is a type of chin augmentation surgery that is used to improve the appearance and augment a person's chin. This can take the form of chin height reduction or chin rounding by osteotomy, or chin augmentation using implants.
 
A particular process, known as a sliding genioplasty, involves removing a horseshoe-shaped piece of the chin bone and sliding it either backwards or forwards, finally fixing it in place using titanium screws.
